It was a bad day today

I took some days off this week to try and get my head straight around this whole dad thing. It has not been easy as I am fighting a lot of different kinds of emotion with it right now. On top of that, some money woes have been bothering me for some time, and the kids have had a few bouts of “let’s try to piss off dad as much as we can tonite” so the last few days of have been a bit trying. Then last night we got another call regarding the cottage. This morning, we found out what happened.

The same neighbors that gave us the huge problem with the well last year have decided that after putting us through all of that, it wasn’t enough, and now they have successfully screwed us again.

We’ve been working down at the cottage over the last few weekends. In fact, last weekend, me and Tamara went down to meet my father in law who then spent the entire day tilling and raking the front and side yard to try and get it to look better come rental time. We put a lot of man hours in the heat out there. Of course, while we were there, we used the water, the toilet, and I think even the shower.

We received a call last night from our neighbor telling us they thought something was wrong because it looked like toilet paper and water was coming up from the ground in between the two properties. Tamara went down, spoke to one of the neighbors, and she said “I think [insert well company name here] cut a pipe or something”. So this morning we went down and had a talk with the owner of said company, and we learned what the neighbors had actually done.

When they decided to put their well in last year, they had to disconnect the water main from our pump to their property. Fine. That only makes sense since they were getting their own well. But in the process of getting everything dug up, they discovered a sewer pipe which clearly was coming from our cottage. The pipe, which was quite old, appeared dry, and looked as if it went all the way to the drainage on the street beside our neighbor. Without consulting us, the neighbor told the well vendor to cut the pipe and disconnect it. They “assumed” the pipe was not used because it was dry but they didn’t know for sure and apparently they went ahead and did it anyway. No one notified us that anything was being disconnected or cut or anything.

The water and toilet paper we discovered is in fact what came down that exact same pipe and had nowhere to go because it was disconnected. Thanks to our ever so lovely neighbors, we now have to fork out the money to have a new sewage drain installed to our cottage. All because our neighbor decided that he didn’t want our sewer pipe crossing his property, about six feet in the ground below his cottage. It was a separate pipe, having nothing to do with anything on his property. It just happens to go underneath it to hit the main sewer line.

I can understand to some point not wanting someone else’s sewer pipe on his property, but we should have been notified and the well company should never have cut it without talking to us. The pipe was dry because nothing had gone through it since last September. We’re not there year round and we were only there a few times once the cottage was ready to go so it’s no surprise to us the pipe was dry 6 months later.

So knowing that we’re going to have the cottages rented for July, we have made arrangements to have things fixed well before then. It will however require us to dig out the entire front lawn which ultimately means that all the hard work we did last Saturday was for nothing.

Let me tell you, I am pissed. As far as I am concerned, the neighbors have made it perfectly clear to me and Tamara that they are willing to be as much of a prick as they possibly can, while standing by and pretending to be all nice and courteous. So, I’m going to make sure that as long as I am down at the cottage, I make their cottage life as miserable as I possibly can without breaking the law. Believe me, if it were allowed, they would be replacing every one of their windows right now but I have had to keep myself in check. Trust me, this is war. If they want to be this much of a prick to their neighbors then they had better be prepared to deal with what comes next. I have had to deal with that fat asshole and his bitch of a wife for the last year and I am going to make sure that they know how much contempt I have for both of them and that they chose to fuck with the wrong person.

I am not a mean spirited man and I like to think of myself as a pretty decent guy. But when it comes to bullshit like this, there is a line, and they have crossed it. I will not stand for their bullshit anymore. Frank, you have been warned.
