So here I am lying in bed and through the majic of great technology and the girlfriend’s ability to type, I am able to update this page with news of my surgery.
I arrived at the office for 8:30am with a nice bundle of cash burning a hole in my pocket. Have you ever seen $3,200 in cash (Pictures will come). As much as I wanted to go blow it, I really wanted the surgery. After giving up the cash and signing my life away(or should I say my eyes), I sat in the waiting room and waited, and waited, and waited, then waited some more. Tamara was nice enough to go get me some breakfast (after he was sure he wouldn’t puke it up). After scoffing down my food, it was time for it to all begin.
They layed me down in this chair and gave me drugs to make me happy. They gave me a pile of eyedrops along with some funky brown-orange stuff to clean my eyes. Although extremely nervous, I did my best to stay calm. They put some freezing on my right eye and I was led into the lazer room. The slicing and dicing was about to begin.
I layed down in a chair and they pushed me way back and slid me under this big machine. They made sure that I was comfortable even though I was scared as hell. They gave me two balls (one for each hand) to squeeze. And believe me, I used them. They started with the right eye. They used a metal clip to hold my eye open so that I wouldn’t blink. I felt a little bit of suction on my eye, and then she told me that the flap had been made(they cut his eye open!). I was suprised as hell at the fact that I didn’t feel a thing. Then the lazer fired for 17 seconds. They closed the flap and the eye was done. The left eye was exactly the same, but putting the freezing in was a little more difficult. After 15 more seconds of lazer time, the surgery was over.
They gave me a set of dark glasses and some more eye drops. I rested for about 10 minutes and then they checked the flap in both eyes and I was ready to go home. My vision was extremely blurry, but they said that was totally normal. I still couldn’t blink and the eyes stung a bit from the freezing agent. I came home and peeked out of my glasses to discover my entire house looked like it was filled with fog. I was still pretty freaked out and just needed to rest. I layed down and took a nap (3 1/2 hours) and felt a whole lot better when I woke up.
Since then I have put more drops in and I have already noticed a vast improvement in my vision. I will know in a few days what normal vision will be since I won’t have to wear the dark glasses after Sunday. I will keep everyone posted on my progress.
From Tamara:
If anyone ever has a chance to go watch this procedure, it is pretty amazing. It’s too bad he couldn’t see what was going on!
