Anyone who is reading this obviously uses a computer for something. Whether it is work or personal use, you’re using the web, and if your computer has not been updated correctly, just viewing this web page could have infected you with a virus. Yup. it’s finally come to that.
This announcement from Microsoft may be Greek to most of you but what it says is that a certain file, shared by many different applications, is vulnerable to being used to execute any command on your computer, without your knowledge, simply by you viewing an image. ANYWHERE! If a particular image has been used to spread the virus, you can now be infected simply by viewing it in your web browser, Office application, or anything else that let’s you open JPG images.
I’ve started the steps here at work to make sure this gets fixed but this is huge for people who don’t know much about updating their machines. It’s VITAL that you get your machine updated via http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com to make sure your system is protected and updated and safe. Depending on what you have on your machine, you may or may not be vulnerable.
I’m not one for spreading paranoia about viruses and such, but the first known exploit (program that uses this bug to spread a virus or malicious code) was posted to the net yesterday which means in no time at all, viruses will be popping up.
What do you need to do? Make sure you are up to date with all of your updates (as indicated above) and if you need any help, do not hesitate to email me. I can help.
In other news, I have no hot water at home and stabbing pain in my ear on occasion.
Have a nice day…
