So tonite’s post is very heavy on the tech.
First off, I did my first round of wardriving here in the city. For those of you unfamiliar with the term, it refers to one who drives around with a wireless laptop or PDA, and finds various wiireless network hotspots. I was very amazed by the amount of networks just in the few places I went. I was even more amazed by the fact that a lot of them are at least using some level of security, even if it is weak but there was plenty of them, and plenty of open ones as well. Almost frightening to know that someone could be sitting in front of your house, using your internet, without your knowledge. Best be sure to put as much security on what you have as possible. Regardless, it was interesting to see what was out there and what people call their WLAN’s. Kind of funky.
In other tech news, I’m irritated by the new router I bought for my wireless network. I bought it a few weeks back when I got the new laptop but have not been able to connect via VPN to my workplace. It freaking irritates me. I am relatively sure I know what the problem is but regardless of what ports I open, or even put the box in a DMZ, I still cannot connect to the VPN. If I plug the laptop directly into the Rogers box, I get VPN, so I know it’s definitely something in the routers config. I even installed the VPN client on my main system and it still wouldn’t connect. So, unless you know exactly why a Checkpoint firewall VPN client won’t pass through a Netgear WGR614 router, I’m up the creek for awhile. Not a big deal but it is annoying.
Tamara is out for the night as she is at the Rob Thomas concert so I have been playing tech guy all night playing with gear.
OH YA!!! I forgot about the MAME news!!!! WTF is wrong with me?!?!?!
My arcade cabinet has been getting a bit more use the last few months and I have been playing my favorite arcade game, Rygar, as often as I can. So, since I am mobile with the laptop, I’ve also been using my Palm Tungsten a lot more. I went digging and found a copy of MAME (the arcade emulator) for the Palm. Sure enough, the shit works, and I can play Rygar on my Palm. Freaking cool stuff man, There’s a bit of a lag as the proc in the PDA ain’t high end but it’s playable. No sounds, but frig man, the graphics aree just like the PC and the original arcade so I am a happy camper. I should install some more games, and perhaps a NES emu on there as well. Imagine Super Mario on my Palm. Tres cool.
I must say that I am slightly annoyed at the fact that Robotech’s website has given practically dick about the upcoming DVD release of Shadow Chronicles. Freaking irritates me to no end after having got the comics, and am ready to see this damn show, but no release date yet. How lame is that?
Oh yes! I read today the latest rumour on the BIG concert this summer. To follow up the Stones, the latest is The Eagles. WHAT?!?!?! For me, that was a HUGE disappointment. I am really hoping it’s not The Eagles. I don’t mind a few of their tunes, but I really would rather someone like AC/DC come. I mean, rock it out man come on!!! Although, it would have been cool to see Tormented play on a stage that size 🙂
I think I am going to go finish the night off by drinking another Coke, and playing some AOE3 with a cool new cheat I found. Try this in AOE3 if you have the game.
While playing, hit ENTER to start a chat, type in “tuck tuck tuck” and check out what you get as a “weapon”. Let me tell you, 30 of them driving around does wonders to the bad guys houses and forts. MUAHAHAHAHA!!!!
