I haven?t done a flashback episode for awhile so I figured that since I have a few minutes to spare today, I?d fire off an interesting tale of my past that put me, and three good friends into a limo, for a ride around the city.
Going back in time, I would have to say I?d probably be around 16 or 17. In that era somewhere. For those of you that have known me a long time, the term ?spushing? or ?fish flop? should ring a bell with me and Jason Hyslop at least. Well, one night, at the Moncton Coliseum, we spushed for all our might, and it paid off.
To enlighten those who don?t know, Faith No More?s video for ?Epic? was well known in that era for the end where there was a fish that flopped around. Mike Patton, the singer, was notorious for doing that same action during live concerts, including the MTV awards that year. Well, me and Jason took on that same persona and would ?spush? (our word for fish flopping) at the end of Epic at local dances.
Now, one night, myself, Jason, Dave Getty?s, and Chris Clarke (among others) had gone to a dance at the Moncton coliseum. Many people were that and it was actually a lot of fun. At some point, the DJ announced they would have a ?most original? dance contest and they played ?Epic?. Well, surprise there, we went nuts spushing like mad men. There was actually a whole pile of us doing this.
Now, when the song was done, the DJ announced that those ?four guys? down there were the winners. He was supposedly referring to myself, Chris, Jason, and Dave. Now, we were told we would get a chance to drive around Moncton in a limo. We all went out to the limo and prepared for our ride. Now as I recall, there was some controversy because one of us wasn?t supposed to have won but this other guy was. If I remember right, Alan Hicks was supposedly supposed to come for the limo ride and not Dave. Regardless, the four of us were in the limo, and no one was moving. We went for our ride.
Now, we didn?t really have anywhere to go, so we just drove around telling the driver to just drive. Dave had a tape with him so he popped in D.R.I. into the tape deck and we blasted in while driving down Main St.
At some point, we asked the guy to pull into Green Gables. We all walked out like we were rock stars and trying to be cool, went into the store, and returned to the limo. Chris then had a great idea which was probably the funniest of the whole thing.
He asked the driver if he could fit the limo through the drive-thru at McDonald?s. Sure enough, he said it wouldn?t be a problem. Knowing that our good friend Andrea (Suela) was working that night, we took the limo to Dieppe, and someone (can?t remember who) ordered food or a sundae, and sure enough, Andrea was the one serving it through the drive thru.
Beyond that, we drove around a bit more, and I think we got dropped off shortly after. Talk about a fun time.
Chris & Andrea, you guys remember that?
