First time for everything

Tonite is sort of a first for me. In all the years that I have been working with computers, I have never bothered to really do any kind of backup on my system. Yes, I’ve burned stuff off to CD on occasion, but never really done a full backup. Tonite, I am doing just that.

I found that the latest version of Nero has a nice little backup program and it lets you do backups over the network which means I can back up all the important files I have to Tamara’s PC. The odds of both our systems going to hell is slim to none. I have thought about investing in one of those external USB drives that have like 300GB of space just so I’d have a backup drive, or even just a centralized storage. A nice NAS box would be cool too but unfortunately, I’m not made of money.

It’s less than a week away from my trip and I am getting more and more excited. Last night, I changed the reservations for the hotel we are staying at in Edmonton because I found a cheaper place with a better rating and better reviews that what I had originally. It’s further from some of the places we will be visiting but close enough to a main road that we can get around quite easily. I also found my Edmonton maps and have plotted out basically how to get to where I need to be. S’all good.

I started my day off pretty damn good by getting up and mowing the lawn, both front and back which if you know hour house, is quite an activity since the backyard is hellish and slanted. I did however manage to scare myself shitless. For those who don’t know, I have a nasty fear of bees/wasps/stinging insects (minus mosquitos) and we’ve been finding wasps or hornets or something around the house a lot and sure enough today I ran over something with the mower and tonnes of the little things came flying out. Talk about scare the hell out of me. I did manage to get that part mowed but it was nasty on the nerves. The lawn does look a lot better now though. Thank God!

We also went to Tamara’s mom’s house today for Tamara’s nephew’s birthday. Not bad, and definitely a preview of things to come in the future, but frigging Taylor really seemed to enjoy his birthday as he decided to enjoy the outdoors in his birthday suit. Snapped a couple of photos which I am sure a future wife/girlfriend will surely enjoy. Funny stuff.

I did miss the Peeping Tom performance on Conan but thankfully someone put the video up on YouTube which some of you may have seen since I posted it here. I must say that I was surprised how well it was but am kinda curious how they would do a full live show. I really wonder if he’ll be touring with them. We’ll have to see.
