Ripping a CD without a CD

Posted by on August 11, 2006

Ok, so today I did something kinda funky. I had a song that I had actually paid for through Puretracks. However, I can’t copy the file anywhere because it’s a licensed WMA file right? So, I figure I’ll do the same thing I do with other files. Burn it to an audio disc, and then re-rip it as an MP3. Well, I don’t have any blank discs here at my desk. So, what did I do? Burnt it to a fake disc.

You know how you can burn a CD to a CD image? Well, I burnt a CD image audio CD, then mounted it as a CD drive on my system, and ripped it as an MP3. Kinda funky. It worked too!
