Back to Canada

It’s 1am and I should have been back an hour ago but that’s ok, because I made it. Let me tell you a little story.

My flight schedule home consisted of leaving Little Rock at 6pm to arrive in Atlanta for 8:30ish. Then I would fly out of there at 9:41 to arrive in Toronto around midnight.

Well, my flight out of Little Rock was delayed about an hour. That meant I was leaving Little Rock around 7ish, and arriving in Atlanta around 9:15. Unfortunately, I landed in Atlanta at 9:22 and was two terminals (sort of) away from my gate. When I got off the plane at the airport in Atlanta, I looked at the airport monitor to find where my Toronto flight was, and instead of seeing a gate #, I saw “Closed”, meaning the flight was now closed and not available for boarding.

“FUCK” I said in front of the crowd of people waiting to board the airplane. Figuring I was screwed, I decided to go to the gate anyway because they would have to reschedule my flight anyway. So I got on the tram and went to the D concourse because thats where my boarding pass said my gate was, D22. I get off at D and look at a monitor and it says Toronto, C23 (or C29, not sure which one now) and still says it’s closed. So I got back on the tram and went to the C concourse.

I got upstairs and made my way to the gate and went straight to the counter and whatdya know. The flight was closed, but they were waiting for seats for stand-by passengers. When I handed the guy my boarding pass, he scanned it, told me to follow this other gentlemen, and me and another guy who was on standby, would be getting on the flight. The monitor read 9:55 as a departure time but the gate was actually closed. I am guessing that they delayed the flight by 15 mins or so knowing that my connecting flight was delayed. Who knows. Might have been something else but I think it was my fault because there was another guy there waiting to get on the plane and they apparently had told him there was a seat available but when I showed up, the seat was no longer available. Sorry buddy, I wanted home.

So, I post this from my room at the Sheraton where I will sleep for a few hours then head home at 8. That of course is assuming that my flight is on time and not delayed. There’s a pile of snow out there so God only knows if I will be getting home on time tomorrow. We’ll see.
