It’s Friday and I am bored, sort of.
It’s been one of those weeks that seem to have dragged on and on. I have work to do but it’s one of those weeks where you can’t get anything useful accomplished due to constant delays or a lack of information. You wait and wait and wait and need more to do to keep you totally busy but even then you end up waiting. Makes for a long day I tell ya.
I’ve become somewhat frustrated with Rogers and their PVR. I called them today since I got my last bill and despite having canceled the movie networks, my bill is the same amount. Well, lo and behold, the price of internet went up slightly and we no longer qualify for a slight discount so with all of that together, the bill will remain the same. Talk about being screwed. I guess the good thing is that had we kept the movie networks, our bill would be up $20 now.
They also told me that they will be offering a new faster internet service which has an 18 Mbps download speed. Enough to download a 5MB MP3 in about 5 seconds. Of course it only costs $100/month. Ya, even I won’t go for that. Too damn expensive.
I think what is going to eventually happen is that I may look into the world of MythTV. It’s a Linux based PVR system that allows you to record data to one “server” and stream it to multiple playback devices. Plus, it supports firewire and the Motorola DCT-6200 series boxes so I could downgrade the digital box to a standard box without the PVR, switch my cable package to something cheaper, and still have a PVR through MythTV. Only catch is I’d have to buy parts for a new computer for the MythTV PVR. But you know me, I like to tinker 😉
