I have it everywhere. On MSN, Facebook, and now of course, here.
Last night, I left work and went to pick Tamara up and we headed straight to the movie theatres where we got our food, sat down, and had our minds totally blown away by this movie. It was awesome. Totally worth the wait and I am definitely going to be seeing this movie a second time.
Couple of things. The movie does start off a bit slow and during that time (and in the odd spot afterwards) the shots of the robots themselves are a bit fast so I started to think that I wouldn’t get a good shot at seeing them, but as the movie played out, my fears were settled and I got to see them full on in action, and just being themselves.
The movie itself was actually quite funny. If you can sort of smirk for the sense of enjoyment, some of the cheeseball moments were funny and enjoyable. There are moments where you absolutely know what is going to happen but I didn’t care because I still enjoyed it.
I have to say that the fact that Peter Cullen was chosen to voice Optimus Prime was probably one of the things that made this movie. He did the original voice in the original show and let me tell you, the moment he speaks to Sam in that movie, it really did take me back to being a kid. When he says commands like “Autobots, fall back” I couldn’t help but remember watching the show as a kid and loving every minute of it. I can honestly say that I think if someone else had voiced Prime, the movie would not have been as enjoyable.
For those die hard fans who may have complained about certain inconsistencies with the original story (Prime has flames on his truck, Bumblebee is a camaro not a bug, Megatron doesn’t transform into a gun), I can say that I never cared about any of that while watching the movie. The story and everything else that went along with it made me enjoy it even more, and those little things didn’t seem to matter anymore.
The movie is 2.5 hours in length which is a bit long, but for me, once the action started rolling and the Autobots appeared in full force, it rolls by pretty damn fast. I recommend using the bathroom before going to your seats.
Speaking of which, when we came out of the theatre (#2 at Trinity), the line into the 9:30 show went from the doors of #2 all the way to the arcade. This is a movie that a LOT of people are going to see so if you want to see it soon, I recommend buying your tickets online, and showing up WAY early.
Were there downsides to this movie? Nothing major in my book. The movie is a bit long, and the ramp up time is a bit long, but the only other thing that I would say I didn’t like was the lack of talk/banter among the Decepticons. The Autobots had some conversations, jokes, and fun, very much like the original characters. Whereas there was very little talk or communication from the Decepticons. Megatron does get a jab in at Starscream but it almost seemed like that was put there specifically for fans of the original series and not to go with the movie. However, this minor little thing does not deter me from going to see this movie again, and I may in fact see it more than twice depending on what I have going on while I am on the road. I mean, I gotta find something to do right? 🙂
One more thing… Michael Bay is known for his over the top explosions and huge action sequences and this movie is no different. Once again, some of it is WAY over the time but it was forgiveable because the movie is just THAT enjoyable.
If you love action movies, and want to go back to being a kid again, go see Transformers. You won’t be disappointed.
