Yes folks, I have finally gone off the deep end and have purchased a Macintosh computer. Let me tell you a little story.
I have been using my computer for a long time. In fact, it has always been my sort of logic that after so much time has gone by, I upgrade pieces to bring me up to something a bit more current. However, with the age that my computer currently is, it finally has come to the point that in order to upgrade, I would indeed need to purchase an entirely new computer.
Any new computer I would purchase these days would come with Windows Vista. Personally, I don’t trust that new OS and I am sure it does a lot of neat things, but once again, it’s a Microsoft product and I find myself questioning whether or not Microsoft has what I really want. Windows has always given me what I needed and it is indeed the world I am most familiar with. I have always been able to accomplish the things I wanted to with my PC, but recently, I got a little fed up.
It started just shortly after Dylan was born. I wanted to capture some of the video we had taped onto my computer so I can burn a DVD. Well, the program I was using a month ago decided to stop working for video capture. I have not installed anything new, or changed my computer in any way. It just stopped working. This meant that I had to install something else on my computer to do a task I already knew it was supposed to be able to do. At that point, I said I had had enough.
I started looking at the price of Mac’s and decided that if I could find one on eBay that was a little older, experiment with it a little bit, and see if it does what I want, then I could put the money into a full blown one, and switch over entirely.
This morning I won an auction on a Mac Mini. It will ultimately cost me about $400 with shipping but I can probably re-ebay it and get most of that back when I am done with it. The plan is to see how well it really works, and whether or not I really like it.
The fact is, I use my computer for music, photos, video, the internet, and the odd game. I can just as easily move my games to Tamara’s computer, and use a Mac for everything else. I was in Future Shop this week trying out the iMac and man it was fast. Everything loads quickly and it really seems to work well so why not try it right? Where games are not my focus, I really think the Mac will be a good idea.
So, now I just have to wait for this thing to be delivered, hook it up, and see where it leads me.
