The perils of air travel

Posted by on December 4, 2007

Heh, so folks, if you’ve looked outside recently, you know how bad the weather is. Well, I was supposed to fly out yesterday morning around 11:30ish. Let me describe the series of events that took place.

I got to the airport yesterday and literally as I walked through the doors, I heard on the PA that my flight to Montreal had been cancelled due to bad weather. So they re-booked me on a flight for 6pm and I figured I would come back later.

I checked the flight status repeatedly yesterday afternoon from home and all said it was going so I went back to the airport around 5:30ish, went through security, and had my supper. The monitors said that the flight was going to be delayed but the weather was not looking too good so I figured I might as well wait.

Sitting in the lounge area, I went online and kept an eye on the flight status for both my Toronto flight and then my connecting flight to Hartford. Before I knew it, the Toronto flight was cancelled and no more flights were leaving that night. Good thing too because the odds of me making the connection in Toronto were slim to none.

I bumped into a guy from work who was also on the same flight so he had called the travel agency to rebook his flights so he got mine done at the same time. All was well.

Woke up this morning to… well… if you live here, you know. My 11:30 flight to TO was cancelled and so now I wait to see what the travel agency will say when I call them. Heh, I am relatively sure I am going nowhere because the flights at the Moncton airport are listed as being cancelled all the way up to 1pm this afternoon so unless the weather calms down in a big way between now and then, I am not going too far. We’ll see.

UPDATE 3:20PM: All flights out of Moncton were canceled so it looks like this trip was canceled completely. It’s looking now like it will be re-booked for sometime in January. Interesting little surprise. 🙂
