Well folks, I have a few noteworthy things to mention today.
Let’s start with the fact that today I head back out on the road to Hartford, CT. The weather says it is going to be +18 there tomorrow so man, I am glad I will see some warmth. I really think I may need to switch to the summer jacket, at least for this trip. I’m also bringing the GPS in hopes to find a few caches while I am down there.
In other news, it looks like the wicked step-sisters have put a kibosh on their plans to be evil bitches to my mother. Lots of apologies and hugs were given out to her during a recent visit by several of them and it looks like finally the dust is settling. TG for that.
We took down the Christmas tree yesterday but the living room is still a mess. We really need to work on that but the little guy keeps Tamara and myself quite busy. Man, where does the time go?
My progress on the new Bobsroom is slow but is moving forward. Last night I got the logo modified enough for it to fit correctly into my new theme and now I just need to size some tables correctly, and move some old data into the new site. I would like to see the new version go live by the end of the month but these things can take some time. Since there is no official script to migrate data out of the database I use now to the one used by Movable Type, I have to write my own. That basically means that I’ll be doing some old fashion programming in order to get the posts from this site to the new one. Here’s to hoping I can find something that works decent 🙂
Many thanks go out to Alex for the maps. He popped by over this weekend and lent me some discs which contain additional map information that I can download to the GPS. Only bitch is, if I want routing data (turn by turn directions) I am limited to 1GB of my 2GB microSD card. The helper app which sends the routing data only supports 1GB. Hopefully that is something that is being worked on and will be remedied soon enough. Besides, if it gets real bad, I can always skip the routing information and just use the GPS for general area info. Regardless, it is going good.
However, let me tell you, this whole caching thing in the winter, especially for someone who is just starting out, is not the best thing in the world. I went out this weekend and spent two hours trying to find a pile of caches and turned up only one of them. However, I do believe there were many of them that were covered in snow, and at least one of them that I was not prepared to spend any more time in the snow. I really need to do a little digging online to see how these things get hidden in trees, etc, so I have an idea as to what I am looking for. I may have to try this whole paperless caching thing to get me started. We’ll see.
Regardless, I am determined to find at least a few in Hartford this week. My goal is actually 5. That’s not a lot, but it is a few and I want to get some practice in other places so we’ll see how that goes. I’ll keep you posted.
