If you haven’t watched the finale of Lost last night, then you’re not going to want to read the rest of this article. If you don’t want the show, or don’t care, you can read this anyway.
Last night Lost aired part 2 of it’s season finale. Like all finales in Lost, it had a lot of answers and posed a lot of questions. I have mixed feelings about the episode but I am going to reserve judgement until I watch it again. I find with these big episodes that I can’t judge them based on one viewing because sometimes I don’t get everything until I watch it a second time.
I will say that there were a few things that surprised me, and a few that didn’t. In fact, I think there were more than a few occasions where I sort of knew what was going to happen, and I think that tainted the episode for me a little bit.
For example, knowing who the Oceanic Six were, it was pretty obvious to me that Sawyer was not going to make it to the freighter and figuring that they wouldn’t kill him off, I had a gut feeling he was gonna jump off the copter.
However, I did not expect to see them kill off Michael. In fact, I was surprised and a little let down in that they brought this character back, just to kill him off. Seemed like a bit of a waste. I will say though I think it was nice that his character found some redemption from his fellow castaways. He did in fact save his friends from dying.
The ending had a surprise and a not-surprise all wrapped into one scene. I was sure it was Ben in the coffin. I figured it would be him because Jack would want to find Ben to help him get back to the island. Once I saw Ben at the parlour, I had a feeling it was Locke in the coffin. There seems to be mass speculation that Locke is not in fact dead. Could it be a diversion? We’ll have to wait until January to see.
I also wanted to see more out of the orchid station. We learned that there is in fact some sort of time travel accessible via the island and this station but more of that is to be revealed.
High points were definitely seeing Desmond & Penny together, seeing the island actually disappear, connecting the dots on many of the holes from this season, and many other things.
For me, I think I would have to say that I definitely enjoyed the episode, but I do wish we got more info, even though the episode was packed with a lot. I know it is by design since the writers have a grand plan, but sometimes you just want more more more. I don’t like having to wait til late January of next year to start seeing more things. But, I will definitely be revisiting this season to try and catch up on anything I may have missed. In fact, I may go back to the beginning and watch the series from the start to see how answers I have now affect my view of the past episodes.
Regardless, some definite notable occurances during the episode:
- Claire’s creepy appearance at Kate’s house
- Seeing the island disappear
- Watching the freighter blow sky high knowing Michael & Jin were on it
- Watching Ben kill Keamy
- The coffin reveal
- The Orchid station and the frozen donkey wheel
- Charlotte’s reveal that she may have been born on the island
- Juliet & Sawyer on the beach, again
And for anyone who watched the show on ABC, you may or may not have noticed the ad for Octagon Global Recruiting. This was an in-show tie in for something that will be happening at Comicon this summer. No idea what it is specifically yet, but more will be revealed as the days go by. Should be interesting to see.
