Our trip to Niagara Falls, Part II

Posted by on June 19, 2008

I split this into 2 posts because I wanted to share the news early, but didn’t have time to give all the good details. Now I do!

So, after we dropped the car and our bags off at the hotel, we needed to kill some time. So, we went for a walk around to see the falls, and man, they are awesome.

The hotel was right on the river/lake/falls so it was less than a 5 minute walk to get to see them. We then when for a walk down to some of the little shops and continued to look at the falls from various angles. We were close to the US falls and not the famous horseshoe falls, but they were only a 15 minute walk away.

We bought tickets to go to the Maid of the Mist which is the boat that goes INTO the falls. The price was cheaper than we thought and we figured since we would only be there for the day, why not.

We then went for a walk up Clifton Hill which is basically a hill/street with tons of tourist traps, shops, and other “attractions”. Lots of neat stuff. By the time we went around the block and back to the hotel (and had lunch), our room was ready. So, we unloaded our bags into our room, rested for a few minutes, then started on the rest of it.

We walked up to the horseshoe falls and saw those. AWESOME! Very cool. We also took the behind the falls tour which at first seemed really lame as it was just two lame tunnels, but when we hit the observation deck, it became well worth it. The shot you see above is taken from the foot of the falls, at the observation deck.

We also took the ride on the boat which was equally cool. Man, you can feel the mist in the air and the power of the falls/rapids. It was well worth it.

After the boat ride, we went to supper, walked around a little bit, snagged a geocache, had the crap scared out of us (me moreso) at a haunted house type thing, and then hit the casino where we quickly learned that the $5 tables we have in Halifax don’t exist at 10pm on a Tuesday night in Niagara Falls. We played a few hands of the $15 tables, and then called it a night.

Morning saw us enjoy the breakfast buffet from the hotel restaurant, then we drove back to the airport, caught a plane, came home, and proceeded to need serious assistance as our bodies were sore and achy from the walking.

All in all, an awesome trip, even though it was only for a single day. Had a lot of fun and the best part was that Tamara had no idea we were going and she really enjoyed it. Plus, we had real good “us” time and I am so lucky to have her. Hopefully we can do this again sometime soon.
