Finally, a moment to breathe

Wow folks, it has been super fraking busy lately. Wow. For being on vacation, there’s been a lot going on, even though some of it, has been doing nothing at all. Ahhh, the perils of vacation time.

Let’s start with the Quebec trip. I left on Friday morning and got home on Sunday around 11ish in the evening. I have to say that despite the fact that the province is mostly French, I was very impressed. All of the people that I met, and received service by (restaurants, stores, etc) were all very nice and even if their English was horrible, they were still very nice and willing to try and go a little bit further to help me even though there was a language barrier. I was pleasantly surprised and I can definitely say that it does change my opinion of visiting places in PQ. I will however say that it does not vastly change my opinion of the Quebec separatists but I am very impressed by the people there.

Snagged a little over 100 caches between here and there. Saw a lot of neat things and I am hoping to post photos of the trip soon.

Since then, it’s been a combination of doing things around the house, and helping Tamara, along with some much needed sitting around and doing nothing time. I’ve wanted that for awhile and I am soaking up as much of it as I can.

I made a few purchases within the last few days. It started with a new UPS for my computer system since the one I obtained from Norampac years ago finally gave out. I could have replaced the battery but that would have been more expensive than buying a new one so I got that a few days ago. Then, last night, I bought a new laptop for myself. They were on sale at Staples for less than $500 and the laptop was nice and small and basically what I was looking for. I didn’t need anything super high end as it won’t be used for that sort of thing but I wanted something I could tinker with when I’m sitting in bed or watching TV. The only thing about the laptop is that it came with Windows Vista. I’m trying to get XP installed on it as I write this but I have already had one failed installation due to issues with the wireless network card. I found the proper drivers and am now re-doing the install to see if it will work. Beyond that one piece of hardware, everything works in XP fine. Within 30 minutes, I should know one way or the other.

My vacation officially ends tomorrow with the arrival of the weekend but I do believe I will continue to enjoy the time off. I won’t be getting any other time off til September and that will only be a day, then it’s time to start racking up my vacation days again. Yipee, joy.

So for now, I bid farewell and I’ll try and get another post up here soon.
