As the title says, I’m definitely having a rough week.
I’m the type of person who typically embraces new things when it comes to technology and things I do in my job. There’s always new stuff that I have to learn to keep up with the type of work I do. Well, this week I have been tasked with learning a few new things. Unfortunately, it hasn’t gone so well.
For obvious reasons, I can’t give specifics, but I was tasked with integrating one of my projects with a time and billing system. This is something I have never done before. Well, I was given plenty of documentation, and other sample projects to use as a base, and off to the races I went. Well, so far, I have had very little success in getting much of it to work. I have a few small things working but beyond that, it’s pretty much been a bust.
I’m also not the type of person who typically just sits in his cube and doesn’t ask questions. Yes, I am persistant and want to figure things out on my own, but I also know where my limits are and when I should and shouldn’t be bothering others with questions. Well, I’ve tried to hit up a few folks for help but unfortunately most of my colleagues are either out of the office, or super busy. There’s also other factors that have made it difficult to get help and I am feeling a little lost about it.
I came into the office today saying to myself “It’s going to be a good day” so I am hoping that I can carry that with me throughout the day and manage to get some of this stuff working. I rarely ever work at home when the work day is done and I have already worked at home twice this week trying to get this stuff working, and quite frankly, it’s making me feel quite useless. I know I still have a lot of things to learn about certain things I do but really, when you feel like you’re banging your head against a wall it’s very frustrating. The only upside to this is that once this week is over, I fly out on Sunday to Chicago to do some training for a few clients, and that stuff is easy and I’ve done it many times before. It will be a nice change of pace.
Here’s to hoping I can make things work today…
