So, I read this interesting article this week. It was published in a New Brunswick paper and after reading it, I sort of shook my head.
That fact is, I can’t get into any details about the article, or really even link to it without opening up the possibility of getting myself into trouble but I did want to sort of write something about it so I’ll try to make this make sense without getting myself in too deep.
Normally, you consider the local paper to be a source of accurate news. You read it assuming that what you read is in fact the truth. Now mind you, many reporters have been known to take a story and twist or turn it in such a way that some facts become a little distorted. However, in most cases, when you read the paper, you read it and assume it to be the truth.
In the article I read the other day, I was surprised to see the content at all, but after reading the first part, and then the last part, it was very clear that this article was more about promoting one thing than anything else. If I had to guess, I suspect that someone had a hand in making one thing look bad, in order to make something else look better. The headline, and some of the content, attempted to highlight the highs of days past, while at the same time distorting the facts about recent history and the future.
In doing so, the author put some very questionable material in their article and definitely stirred the pot. The fact is, neither this author, nor the folks they spoke to, know anything but yet they take it upon themselves to make it appear that they do, and add fuel to fires that are slowly being put out anyway.
It troubles me to see New Brunswick media quick to jump on the bandwagon of gossip and rumour. I would have thought that local newspapers, especially in small cities like ours, would know that we want to know the realities of our people and business, not conjecture.
Suffice it to say, it was quite ironic to read that article, then turn around today and hear some great news that definitely shows how this author had their head up their ass and didn’t know a thing about what was really going on. Thankfully, the people that are involved know the truth, and they can just shrug off what the media says knowing that at some point, it will be quite clear what is really going on.
