Well folks, this Sunday I will be participating in a yearly geocaching event in Shediac. If you take a look at this map, you can clearly see the island in the middle of the water. Just to the north of the island is Grand-Digue which is where me and a pile of other cachers will begin a hike from the mainland, across the ice, to the island, where I will hopefully be picking up 24 cache finds. I wanted to go on this walk last year but unfortunately I was on the road for work so I missed it.
It’s about a 2K hike from the starting location to the island and there’s a pile of snow, plus more on the way so the hike will be done on snowshoes. It will likely be a little harder than my normal hikes but at least with snow shoes it will be easier.
I am however curious as to why folks aren’t crossing more near Shediac Bridge instead of Grand-Digue. I know that the event’s hosters live in GD but I think it would be less of a hike from another area. Maybe it’s all private property and no access to that area from a road. Maybe I’ll go out on my lunch hour and see what I can find.
Regardless, I think it will be a lot of fun. Hopefully not too tiring and with lots of people around, I suspect it is going to be a blast. I may even post photos while I’m out on the ice. Keep your eye on here for more.
