Taking a few minutes…

Posted by on August 16, 2009

After helping out with the bathing duties of both kids tonite, Tamara got Dylan ready for bed while Megan fell asleep on me. Had a little snooze while she slept and when I woke up, asked the wife for a few minutes out here in the office so now I’m taking them. Here’s a few things going on in my life right now:

The second annual Moncton’s Race For Cache went over very well. We had 11 teams total giving us about 40 people or so. They hit all 12 stops with relatively no problems. The biggest thing that surprised me was that the teams consisted of mostly out of towners. The big local cachers weren’t in attendance as many of them were out of town for other things. We had folks from Truro, NS, Saint John, Halifax, Fredericton, and even PEI. I was very impressed. Good range of age as well from little babies a little older than Megan to seniors. We even had a few disabled folks with one guy who had MS and another guy with an artificial leg. Didn’t slow them down in their desire to do well in the race. I was just completely blown away by people. It all ended at our almost finished cottage at Parlee Beach and we had awesome weather. I really hope I can do the same thing again next year.

Now with the race behind me, I have a trip to Maine coming up in two days. Heading down there to do some serious caching for purely numbers. Should be able to snag 150-200 caches I’m figuring but only time will tell. We’ll see.

Next week I’ll be doing a geocaching thing for the camp kids of the YMCA at Victoria Park. Basically showing the ropes on caching to about 60 kids. It is going to be interesting to see how these kids do caching. It will be neat.

That weekend I’ll also be in attendance of the relaunch of Irishtown Park which is a huge event for cachers as new caches and other things are going on that day. I worked with another local cacher to get a very special cache set up for the park. Should be pretty cool.

After that, August is done and I have no more plans. Let me tell you, it seems like this month has just had WAY too much going on. I think I am going to try and do my best to make sure that September is a bit more laid back. Me and Tamara will be taking our vacation to Las Vegas in October so that will be a nice break. Yes folks, Vegas. We have reservations for a suite at The Bellagio hotel where we will be staying for 3 nights and I am hoping it all goes well. The only confirmed thing we’ll be doing in Vegas is going to see the “O” show by Cirque Du Soleil which is in the same hotel. Aside from that, we’ll do some gambling, check out the various spots along the strip, go see Freemont St, check out a Vegas wedding chapel, and who knows what else. Not sure if we’ll be able to say much about our trip cuz as they say, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. It will be an interesting trip.

The cottage stuff is ongoing. It was supposed to be completed on July 1st, then August 1st, then 90% done two days ago, and now they’re saying 90% done by Friday. I’m VERY irritated by the fact that the contractor can’t stick to a date. There’s also complications with some of the neighbors because of an issue that was created when my folks sold their other cottage several years ago. I’m not going to get into it but let’s just say that I now need to dish out $2000 to get out of a deal made back then. Don’t like it but it’s the only way out.

Plus, as much as I love my family, sometimes it pisses me off to no end that they can’t mind their own ***damn business and just leave the neighbors alone. I got really pissed today about some stuff that was said and I just shake my head and wonder. Regardless, I’ll find a way to deal.

I actually went into work last Monday and had my employee eval which went pretty good. Some good and ok things came out of it. I am hoping that it leads to bigger and better things but only time will tell right?

This heat is brutal. Let me tell you, I won’t bitch about it because I crab about the cold weather during winter and I always say that I won’t complain when the heat comes. Well, I’m sticking to that but man, it’s the humidity. I’m sticky! My office right now is 33 degrees and the fan is on and the window is open. Unfortunately because of the windows we have in this house, we can’t use a conventional air conditioner and I’m not paying $500 for a portable one. So for now, we suffer. Thankfully as the evening rolls on it does get a bit cooler and the basement is VERY nice. Ewwwww. I just pulled off my chair and I could feel the sweat sticking to the back of the seat. LOVELY!

Not sure what’s up with this but I’m on a Katy Perry kick right now. Not sure what that’s all about as I’m not one for bubble gum pop but what can I say, she kisses girls!

Lastly, I am not happy with my laptop. I turned it on yesterday morning and it worked great. Shut it off, took it to the cottage, tried it there, and the mouse has not worked since. Not sure what happened but something is definitely flakey. What gives? I think it has to do with the fact that I think the 1 year warranty just expired so this is my payback. Oh well. I’ll find a way to get it fixed.
