I’m working on getting a pile of TV and movies on my portable devices so that me and Tamara have some things to watch while we are flying on our trip. Not hard to get done but am a little annoyed by one very silly problem.
I bought a copy of the X-Files I Want To Believe DVD last year. In the set, it has a special DVD which contains digital versions of the movie that you can watch on portable devices such as an iPhone. It’s legit and paid for. Problem is, you need this unlock code which came on a sheet of paper that was with the DVD. I don’t have the sheet of paper so I can’t use my legit digital copy.
So, what do I do to get the movie on my phone? Get this. I insert the DVD and rip it to my computer as an image file of a DVD. It’s basically a single file version of the entire DVD itself which can be mounted on any computer and played. I then needed to “rip” that DVD to a format that my phone can play. It worked very well and it plays on my phone just fine. What I find entertaining is that if I had done this in the US, it TECHNICALLY would be considered illegal because I had to use software to break the DVD encryption (ripping).
Very stupid. I own a legit copy of the digital version but can’t play it so I have to rip it illegally (not in Canada mind you) to get a digital copy. Messed up.
