So at my last post, I basically bitched about the fact that it seemed the cottage bullshit was starting again. Well, a little time has passed and some things have already been resolved, mainly, my attitude about the whole thing.
When you get down to it, us owning a cottage is something nice that we can enjoy in the future. The kids will get good use out of it and it’s definitely never a bad idea to have property in an area that is considered prime, and Parlee Beach is definitely a good area to be in. So knowing that it’s a good investment for the future, we need to keep our head in the game right, so that we can have that nice place for the future.
That having been said, I do have some good news. We have running water again. The pipe/shower issues have been resolved and I was down there this weekend with lots of water to be had. Only catch was that hot water was limited. Looks like an element may have gone but since the heater belongs to NB Power, they will come out and fix it. That’s a very minor issue.
The driveway situation has not been resolved, yet. But we have plans in the works which will see us having our own culvert and driveway installed hopefully this month and then we are on our own and don’t have any need to rely on the neighbors.
I have sort of taken the stance that we have our property, and it’s not really worth the effort to go after neighbors who do questionable things unless the payoff will be worth it. Ya, the put stuff on our property and they made a big deal about it last year when we did the same, so they are kind of being hypocrites. I could just as easily make a huge stink with them about what has happened, but at the end of the day, I don’t care as long as I have a way onto my property. Now, if they keep pushing their luck, then maybe I’ll address the situation, but until then, I’m just letting things play out and not getting myself worked up about it. Why should I? If I get anxious about it, all it does is make it worse for me right? I’m trying, the key word is TRYING to have a better attitude about it.
Now an interesting twist has happened on one of our not-so-great neighbors. When we were having construction done on our cottage, our contractors told us about how this neighbor had “acquired” some of the lumber left around the area. They didn’t care because to them it was scrap but it was still very good lumber and this guy just up and took it without asking anyone. No one said anything because it was just leftovers but we were a bit annoyed that he thought he was entitled to just take what he wanted. Well, the other cottage beside him is having a new deck put on, and they noticed some of their lumber missing. My aunt was talking to the contractor their and told them the story about our neighbor and what went on last year, and the contractor went right over to our neighbors house, told him that the police would be coming to question him about whether or not he had taken anything.
I don’t know whether our neighbor actual did take anything, but if he did, I’m smiling from end to end 🙂
Lastly, with the expenses of the cottage piling up, I was stressed about where the money to pay for all of this was going to come from. Well, we decided to rent the cottage out for the month of July at $800/week which would basically cover our driveway, well controls, and some other minor expenses. I wasn’t too keen on giving the cottage up for a month but the gains outweigh the losses. Renting is the easiest way to recoup some finances that we’ve had to fork out for this. Once it’s done, it’s done and we won’t have to worry about paying it again.
So if you know anyone looking for cottage near Parlee in July, let me or Tamara know 🙂
