Yes folks, it really has been a year already.
In February of last year, I started working on a new news and information website for geocaching in the province of New Brunswick. With the help of some other cachers, I managed to get a good start on the content. News leaked out here and there that a new site was being built so a few cachers learned of it early, but on February 28th, 2010, at the monthly breakfast in Moncton, the site was officially launched and ready for business.
Since then, we have published 323 stories, articles, news items, and information pieces. We’ve had over 1,160 comments on all of our articles. We’ve produced five liveblogs, four podcasts, and have had several events, some of which have made both the local newspaper and TV. CUNB has worked with both the city of Saint John and Dieppe to produce geocaching aware events that helped bring more interest to the sport in our province. We’ve also had more than 140 geocachers register on the site all within the first year. That’s pretty good considering that a year ago, no one had ever heard of Cache Up NB.
And last, but certainly not least, thanks to another local cacher, FreddyBeach, Cache Up NB is now linked and referenced on the official website for Tourism New Brunswick. Huge thanks to FreddyBeach for getting this set up for us.
So what’s in store for our next year? Well, currently I’m working on a far better calendar for folks to use that includes a lot more information about upcoming events. I’d love to be able to include a better shoutbox that works like a Facebook wall allowing you to post photos and such but that might be awhile. The site could definitely use some more photos and media. You can also expect to see more podcasts in the future, more video, more posts, more news, and more events.
Also, hopefully before the sumer hits, I’ll have a pretty big announcement that I’m sure will pique the interest of cachers everywhere. No Tetagoucher, it’s not a coin 🙂
Lastly, I’d like to send a shout out to Rev Slippery who has been a great help in administering the site. Also, big thanks to Ma & Pa, milosheart, Nemodidi, vbpad, coopsquared, Jim52, chignecto duo, Tiger Tracker, Treehugger21, critter431, Chiefy268, Zonker, forestfauna, paulandstacey, Team Bikefast, and anyone else who may have submitted content to us in the last year. Without your contributions, the site would not be what it is today. Huge thanks to everyone who has helped out in some capacity.
In moving forward, I hope to continue to see folks coming here and contributing. If you have any comments or suggestions, send them our way. We’re always looking for new and interesting ways to share our love of the sport of geocaching.
Here’s to another year of success!
