I’m not one to typically use CUNB as a means to self-promote my own caches or events but today, I’m making an exception.
On August 13th, 2011, I will be hosting the 4th annual Moncton’s Race for Cache geocaching event. This is an annual event that takes teams of geocachers and pits them against each other in a unique race around the city of Moncton.
Teams start at Bore Park at are given a clue which will lead them to another clue which leads them to another clue and so on. Each clue they find is either hidden in a typical geocache container, or is obtained by solving clues or performing a specific task.
In the past, teams have had to drive go-karts, play video games, shoot baskets, count lights, and even eat/drink the occasional item. While out and about doing the race, teams can also score additional points by snapping photos of various items found on a “snapshots” list. Each snapshot is worth a certain amount of points and are added to the team’s total score.
When teams cross the finish line, they are scored based on how quickly they completed the race, and other specifics. The team with the highest score is crowned the winner.
The finish line has a free for all BBQ potluck where drinks, hotdogs, and hamburgers are served to everyone. There are also door prizes for cachers who run the race, three trophies (winner, first to finish, most honest score), a 50/50 draw, and a great deal of fun for all who participate.
Even if you are not interested in running the race, you are still welcome to attend the BBQ.
Last year’s race saw over 100 people attend and I’d love to see us hit higher than that this year.
If you are interested in more information about this year’s race, please check out the official race website at www.monctonsraceforcache.com. You can also find the official geocaching.com listing here.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask!
I can’t wait to see you there!
