In an unexpected, but delightful turn of events, Groundspeak has finally opted to upgrade the former Wherigo platform to a brand new location based adventure called WhereDidItGo.

WDIG is based on the highly popular, but hard to implement Wherigo platform that came out several years ago. Upon it’s release, Groundspeak saw a flurry of interest from it’s users in the development of WiG cartridges. Unfortunately their focus shifted to mobile and the WiG platform seemed to be abandoned.

In a recent interview, Groundspeak employee Dale Fletcher gave an update on these recent developments.

“We realized that many of our users were asking about Wherigo and what had happened to it. Many of them were asking “Where did it go” and we didn’t have a good answer. After taking a long hard look at it, we realized that since people kept asking about where it went, we decided to rebrand the platform to give them their answer.”

WhereDidItGo consists of the same basic toolset as found in Wherigo except that the builder is now even more unstable than the previous one, and no one seems to be able to find any download links for it. Users are now asking about the download links by saying “Where did it go?”

Groundspeak is hoping that it’s recent attempt to revive this location based activity will bring out new ideas and innovative concepts on how to figure out exactly where things went.
