This new program, expected to launch in late June/early July, is expected to consist of about 20 geocaches hidden across the entire province. The intent is to get people out and active and geocaching is well known for accomplishing this.
Due to the scale of this challenge, we are currently seeking active geocachers who would be willing to volunteer their time to assist the NB Trails Council with this project. The volunteers would accompany a representative to certain areas of the province to hide the caches. The containers themselves are being provided already. It’s merely the aspect of hiding the caches they need assistance with.
They are looking to hide the caches sometime between June 14th and June 25th within the following areas:
- Moncton, Sackville, Riverview, Bouctouche, Riverside Albert
- Caraquet, Bathurst, Campbellton, Miramichi
- Fredericton, Oromocto, Meductic, Woodstock
- Edmundston, Baker Brook, Grand Falls, Perth Andover
- St. Andrews, Saint John
Be advised that you do not have to live near these areas to volunteer, but it would probably make it easier if you did. Meals and transportation will be provided by NB Trails but you must bring your own GPS, and have experience in hiding caches. You will also need to have a pocket query loaded for the area that contains ALL cache hides, including ones you may have found. This is required in order to insure the caches placed are within the saturation guidelines.
Cache Up NB routinely relies on our dedicated volunteers that have helped us tremendously in the past. We are hoping some of these individuals, and others, can assist us with what we think is a great program.
