As many of you know, Sentier NB Trails and Cache Up NB partnered together to release a new geocoin challenge program here in New Brunswick. Yesterday, all of the caches were released and the program is now live.
These caches were hidden with help from Cableguy, ranger170, Madpuck, Snoik, and Belladan. Big time thanks to you for helping launch this awesome program.
Below you will find the official press release from Sentier NB Trails along with a map to show you the basic areas of where the caches can be found and a sneak peak at the coins themselves.
Throughout 2014, the New Brunswick Trails Council has been celebrating its special 20th anniversary (1994-2014). Today the organization is proud to officially launch the much anticipated NB Trails 20th Anniversary Geocaching Program. The program features 20 Geocaches which have been hidden along 20 different trails in 20 different communities; a literal province-wide treasure hunt.
Geocaching.com describes the hobby as “a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.”
200 limited edition Geocoins were minted especially for the program. Residents andvisitors are encouraged to participate in the program for their chance to earn or win a Geocoin. All Geocaches were made to be family and beginner friendly, making the program a perfect opportunity to start exploring the world of Geocaching.
“The program is designed to encourage individuals and families to get outdoors and tohighlight the many active living trails in New Brunswick” says Kevin Maillet, Marketing & Communications Coordinator for NB Trails. “You’ll able to find the Geocaches right from your smartphone; a handheld GPS device is not required. Once you find a Geocache, you’ll definitely want to start looking for the next one. It’s an exciting and unique way to get some fresh air and exercise while getting rewarded for it!”
The program was made possible thanks to a partnership made with Cache Up NB volunteers who helped hide the Geocaches throughout the province. Cache Up NB is a news, information, and community based organization focused on geocaching in New Brunswick. They promote geocaching through their website and community based activities. They also provide team-building workshops and Geocoin challenges for organizations interested in leveraging geocaching for tourism and outdoor activities.
