The scribbles/chat page has now permanently moved off the right hand sidebar. It has been temporarily replaced with a small widget which provides two links to the scribbles. One is the standard “chat” page which has always been available from the “Chat” menu option on the main menu bar at the top. The second link is the full scribbles “pop-out” page that some people have been using on their mobile device.
The Scribbles will eventually be permanently retired with something new to replace it. Stay tuned for future updates.
The links to the chat pages can be found here and here.
UPDATE April 29th, 2016
Tetagoucher reminded us that the Tweet Ticker was also removed but no mention of it here. So here’s the deal on that…
The ticker has been around a VERY long time and has served as quite well. In fact, it was the first piece of code evulc wrote for us. He was paid with a free case of beer.
The ticker has been removed mainly due to lack of use. There were only a small handful of people who were using the ticker for updates on their geocaching adventures. In the last year there have been many instances where the ticker would report “no new tweets” for the tags we scan.
The biggest reason the ticker was created was to allow for people to post images from Twitter that we could display in miniature in the ticker itself. Since most people now use Instagram for image sharing, the ticker has become even more dated and needs to be updated.
For now, the ticker will be remain offline until either we replace it with something newer, or we have a specific reason to bring live updates back to the website.
