VAJ Magazine was a zine/fanzine that I produced back in the 1990s. This was long before the days of the internet and websites. I was an active member of the local underground music scene and spent much of my time at shows either in mosh pits, or setting up gear for bands, doing sound, or helping out in any way I could.
VAJ Magazine started off as a little zine for me and a few of my friends to find a place to write about anything weird and obscene we could think of at the time. We’d also throw in the odd music review and band interview to fill the pages out.
As time passed, much of the oddball humor stuff was whittled out in favor of a more professional looking magazine about music. The best of the humor content remained but our interest in local music had spiked so that was reflected in the pages of VAJ.
15 issues in total over 4-5 years with interviews and reviews covering more bands than I can even remember. It may not have been Kerrang! but it was something we all enjoyed doing.
In 2010, I compiled all of our old content together and released a limited edition (3 copies) book with everything in it. It also included new material written specifically for the book. You can all about it here.
