The reason I quit doing VAJ Magazine

Posted by on March 25, 2008

Interesting thing I found this morning. I’m on the Moncton Locals message board and this guy posted a video from 13 years ago. It’s from FuzzFest ’95. Now, VAJ didn’t officially end until quite awhile later, but FuzzFest was the start of my realization that bands were not getting better.

If you check out this video and skip ahead to the 6 minute mark, you’ll see a band called Orange Glass. This was a band that sucked. They sucked REAL bad. And people were cheering for them. A lot. It was a sign that I was definitely not enjoying the music I was reviewing as much as I once did. Interesting to go back and see it. What you don’t see in the video is the guys from Gob upstairs making fun of the band on stage. They were on the second floor of the school (they’re at MacNaughton) and the two guys were pretending to have sex and give each other head. I was more entertained by that then by watching/hearing the band.

As a side note, in that same video at 7:24 (approx) you can catch Sandy LeClair doing what he loved the most. Playing bass for Fungus/Skinkeeper/Mighty Trust Crusher.
