I would never in a million years have ever believed that such an app would exist, and when I heard about it I was very doubtful that it would do what it claims. Today I heard about it again and thought, ok, I have to try this myself to see if it really does what it says it can do.
Imagine this scenario:
You’re driving to work in the morning, listening to the radio, and by chance a song comes on that you have been hearing a lot of lately. But, everytime you catch the song, they never give you the name of the artist, name of the song or anything. So instead of knowing what it is and being able to get the song, you’re stuck hoping the next time they play it, you’ll find out who it is. Well folks, Shazam solves this quandry.
If you have Shazam on your phone, when that song comes on, take your phone out, start Shazam, and literally hold the phone up to one of your speakers. After about 10 seconds of listening to the song, Shazam “thinks” about it, and presto: it spits out the name of the song, the artist, and gives the album artwork, plus a link to buy their album.
I tried it with a plethora of songs and it got almost every one of them. The few it missed I was not surprised as they were either just indie/local artists, or something comparable.
I tried Faith No More, Paradise Lost, Korn, and even the South Park kids from the South Park movie, and it got all of them right. So if the song is on the radio, it will likely know it.
Very cool app. Check out their website here.
