Vancouver, gone already, and Edmonton here I am

I spent 3 nights in Vancouver and I did not get a chance to see very much. I did however see enough of the city to know that it is quite a nice looking city. Took some photos, wandered the streets a bit, but with my head and my throat acting all weird, it was another trip where I felt more like sitting in my hotel room resting, then going anywhere. It was a bit of a shame since the weather there was so mild, and there was no rain. Something that doesn’t happen a lot there apparently (lack of rain that is). Regardless, I am glad I went, and I did enjoy being there, but as always, I was glad to leave.

Since I was travelling from Vancouver to Edmonton for personal business, I decided I would check my carry on bag. I didn’t want to lug it through the airport. Ironically enough, in almost 3 years of travelling for work, I had never checked my bag because I heard the horror stories of people losing their luggage. Well, I didn’t lose my luggage, but I won’t check it again when I am travelling for business.

Turns out, I get through security, and have about 2.5hrs left before I leave. I walk down to my gate, and then wander around and see that there is another flight to Edmonton leaving in about an hour. I ask if I could get bumped and  if I had not checked my bag, I would have been bumped. How about that? Well, I definitely know now that if I am travelling light (carry ons only) to not check any of it in case I want to try and get a better flight.

Now, I got to Edmonton, got my rental car, got all the way to my dads, then find out that they lock the outside door of his apt. building so I can’t get inside to buzz him to let him know I am here. Oh ya, and I don’t have his phone number on my cell. It’s a 3 hour time difference between Moncton and Edmonton and I was standing at the apartment building at 11pm so I REALLY didn’t want to call Tamara and wake her up. I couldn’t use directory assistance because I don’t think the phone is in his name. Well, thank God for technology. I used my iPhone to look up an old email I had sent my uncle with dad’s number in it. Found the email, called my dad, and all was well.

Today, despite the frakkin cold weather, I went out caching. I snagged a few while I was here but the big thing for today was travel bugs. I had brought 8 bugs with me so I found a travel bug hotel (cache that holds bugs that need moved) and swapped out the 8 bugs in the hotel for the 8 I had. I’ve got a pile of bugs to bring back with me now. SWEET!

Lastly, I was going to go see an Oiler’s game tonite, but unfortunately I didn’t buy tickets before coming here and hence I am now out of luck since the game is sold out. Oh well. Not a big deal. Maybe next time right?
